Iron Rich Foods

Iron Rich Foods

Iron is an essential mineral that serves several important functions, its main being to carry oxygen throughout your body as a part of red blood cells. However, the body cannot produce iron on its own and it is important that we incorporate iron-rich foods as part of a healthy diet.

If you’re like me you grew up thinking that consuming organ meat is the only way to boost iron levels in the body. It’s not. Plant-based foods help too. Here’s a list of iron-rich foods you can incorporate into your diet that boost and help maintain healthy levels of iron in the body:

1. broccoli
2 dark leafy greens
3. legumes (beans, lentils, chickpeas, peas)
4. nuts and seeds
5. quinoa
6. grass-fed meat

Tip: Vitamin C helps your body absorb more iron. Hence, eating other foods rich in vitamin C while you’re eating high-iron foods can increase your body’s absorption.

2 hojas verdes oscuras
3. legumbres (frijoles, lentejas, garbanzos, guisantes)
4. nueces y semillas
5. quinua
